Streamline your next move and eliminate stress by taking an organized approach to each space in your home. Being able to find all the packing supplies you need at
Elite Self Storage can help, as can taking a move room by room. Having the best possible way to tackle each room helps as well.
When you’re packing up your closet, for example, there are a number of things that you can do to make life a little easier. Here’s our guide to doing just that.
Clear Out The Closet
Packing up your closet is way easier if you remove everything from it first. Just take everything out and put it in the middle of the room or on a bed. It’ll be easier to sort that way, and you won’t have to worry about other things getting in the way as you try to organize or remove items.
Clean the Closet
Once the closet is empty, it’s a good time to give it a thorough cleaning. You’ll have to do it eventually, so why not do it now so you don’t run the risk of forgetting to later? Dust, mop, and use whatever other cleaning supplies you have to make that closet look brand new. The next person to use it will appreciate it.
Get the Right Supplies
Now it’s time to make sure that you have the packing supplies that you need. Our facility sells the boxes, tape, and other things that you need to get organized and packed. Large boxes are great for holding a lot of clothes, because they’re relatively light and you don’t have to worry too much about them breaking through. Having garbage bags on hand is also a good idea, for reasons we’ll explain in a second.
Organize Into Piles
Now here’s the fun part. Organize all of your items into three piles. You can have a keep pile, obviously. These are the clothes you’ll definitely want to wear again, meaning that you won’t mind lugging them to your next home. Pack them into boxes and get them out of the way and ready to go to your next destination.
Then we recommend having a donate pile. Sometimes you just outgrow certain clothing. If there’s nothing wrong with items, there’s no reason not to donate them and let them find another home with someone who could make use of them. Then make a sell pile. Some clothing, bags, or accessories can actually be worth a good amount of money. Do your research and see if selling them is worth the effort.
You might also want to see what seasonal items you have. You can separate those in their own pile and pack them up. Then bring them to us and open up a self storage unit! This is especially wise if you’re moving into a smaller space.
